What are Lifting Threads?

Lifting threads are a sterile monofilament composed of Polydioxanone (PDO) sutures which are inserted under the skin and then dissolved by the body. Unlike mono threads, this unique thread technology is wrapped with tiny barbs that latch onto your skin, as you pull and tighten the threads the skin will lift with it (like a mini facelift) improving areas such as the nasolabial folds, marionettes, jowls and jawline. Best suited for those in the 35 - 55 year old age bracket, the Thread Lift offers an alternative to facelift surgery.

Are Lifting Threads safe?

Lifting Threads have been widely used since the 1990’s results and patient comfort has improved over the years with new technology which has now increased popularity and excessability. Lifting Threads are FDA approved in Australia and can only be performed by a medical professional. The procedure does come with risks that will be discussed in the consultation.

There are instances where threads can not be used such as

-       Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers

-       Some autoimmune disorders (must have clearance from a specialist)

-       Keloid scarring

-       Allergic to Polydioxanone

-       Post-inflammatory pigmentation

How long do Lifting Threads last?

You will see instant results however there can be bruising and swelling present lasting 5 - 7 days. The thread will be completely dissolved in 2 - 3 months and results can last 1 - 2 years.

What are the side effects of Lifting Threads?

Side effects of Lifting Thread include bruising, swelling, infection, body rejecting threads, scarring, pigment changes, damage to deeper structures of the face. Some people may experience numbness of the face after treatment due to the anesthetic used, this will wear off in 3-5 hours. You may also feel tightness in the face when smiling or when making certain facial expressions which will resolve in 3-7 days.

PDO Mono Thread pre-treatment care:

-       Avoid alcohol and smoking.

-       Avoid anti-inflammatory medication (Nurofen, Aspirin) seven days before treatment. Consult your doctor prior if necessary.

-       Avoid treatment if you have an active infection to the treatment area.

PDO Mono Thread post-treatment care:

-       Do not apply anything to the skin for 24 hours.

-       Makeup can be applied 48 hours after treatment.

-       Avoid facial contact with animals for 48 hours.

-       Ice may be applied to soothe the area.

-       If you have bruising you may apply Hirudoid / Arnica cream.

-       You must sleep face up for 3 nights.

-       Avoid all facial treatments for 3 weeks.

-       Avoid dental surgery for 4 weeks.

-       Avoid saunas and solarium or heat treatments for 4 weeks

-       Do not have RF or laser treatments in the same area for 3 months.
